Above is the Parthian army, deployed facing the Romans.
Another view of the Parthians
The Roman army of Crassus, deployed on a gentle rise. The Romans have a couple mounted elements on each wing, and a mobile reserve. The legionaries are deployed in the center.
Another view of the Romans.
The Parthians send some of their right flank forces forward; Light Horse (LH) elements supported by fast bow in the woods.
An overview from behind the Roman lines.
The Romans shift some legionaries over to their left flank to support their mounted force.
The Parthian center & left (top) moving slowly together forward.
The Parthian right moves forward to engage.
The Parthians have lost a LH, but are trying to outflank the Roman far left. The score is 0-1 to the Romans.
A bound later, the Romans lost both mounted elements on the left due to close & distant combat. The fast bow have now fallen back in the woods to avoid the legionaries. The score is 2-1 in favor of the Parthians.
A couple bounds later, the Romans manage to kill another Parthian LH and shift a Cavalry (Cv) element over from the reserve. The score is 2-2.
The Parthian LH almost flees off the table. The Parthian fast bow has ventured out to shoot at the Roman Cv. Not much is happening elsewhere on the battlefield, due to limited pips.
The Romans pin the Parthian fast bow with threat zones.
The Parthian fast bow is slain while the LH tries in vain to help.
Crassus cavalry element personally destroys the Parthian LH, eliminating 4 Parthian elements for the win. Final score 2-4 win for the Romans.
This battle devolved into both sides making the maximum effort on one flank, with the rest of the battlefield being mostly ignored. The Romans shifting troops to their left from the cdenter proved decisive.
Good narrative of a not unusual pip starved game. Not sure who would have had the edge in a bigger smash up.
ReplyDeleteI can almost hear the cry, Let the Horse Bow Shoot! :-)
I had to listen to that for most of the game. :)
